What
is the SchoolPool program?
SchoolPool is a program which provides carpool ridematch lists to parents
with students attending the same school(s) to encourage carpooling. For additional
information or to request carpool ridematch applications for yourself or your
school, contact EDCTC at (530) 642-5267 or e-mail
us.
How does
SchoolPool work?
Parents
who wish to share carpool responsibilities with other parents fill out a ridematch
form and mail it to EDCTC. Each participating parent will receive several
updates of carpool ridematch lists for their children's school(s). The lists
contain parent names, nearest cross street and phone number. It is the responsibility
of the parent to make contact with the other parents on their matchlist to
join an existing carpool or form their own.
How does
a student/parent join SchoolPool?
Schools
distribute SchoolPool ridematch forms and information through material periodically
taken home by students. It can also be distributed as part of school newsletters,
or as an insert with school correspondence distributed in the mail. Ridematch
forms are also available by e-mail
or by calling the EDCTC office at (530) 642-5267.
What
are the benefits of SchoolPool?
There
are many benefits to the SchoolPool program. The direct benefit of SchoolPool
is to help reduce school-generated traffic and improve safety. This also contributes
to improved mobility on streets adjacent to schools. Reduction of traffic
around schools also reduces the noise and air pollution generated by traffic
during high congestion periods. SchoolPool offers parents the convenience
of having students transported to school and back under the supervision of
another parent.
How much
does it cost?
There
is no cost for using SchoolPool services provided by EDCTC. Funds for this
program are provided by EDCTC. In-kind assistance is provided by participating
schools.
If carpooling doesn’t work, try the bus!

Want
to form a school carpool?
It's easy…
For
many parents, the necessity of taking children to school safely and efficiently
has been eased through the formation of carpools. Carpooling has proven to
be a convenient way to transport neighborhood children to school if other
forms of transportation are unavailable or inconvenient. This informal arrangement
has given rise to a new alternative for student transportation called SchoolPool.
SchoolPool has become helpful for many schools because of school-generated
congestion on adjacent roadways. Ridematch forms are available by e-mail
or by calling the EDCTC office at (530) 642-5267.
Concerned
with confidentiality?
We guarantee your personal information always remains confidential. Only your
name, cross street and phone number are listed; and are sent only to other
parents who have students attending the same school. Matchlists are available
only to parents registered in the SchoolPool program.
