MISSOURI FLAT ROAD INTERCHANGE AND WEBER CREEK BRIDGES
NEWS FLASH!
The California Transportation Commission Awards $35.5 Million to Missouri Flat Interchange Project
The California Transportation Commission recently allocated $35,456,000 to
the Missouri Flat Interchange Project, including $5 million in federal economic
stimulus funding.
“This is the largest amount of money ever awarded to a transportation
project in El Dorado County. We’re putting people back to work and improving
safety” said District 3 Supervisor Jack Sweeney.
The project includes seismic retrofits of the eastbound and westbound Weber
Creek Bridges, widening each bridge to three lanes, construction of auxiliary
lanes between Missouri Flat Road and Placerville Drive, and a bicycle/pedestrian
facility cantilevered off the eastbound bridge. The seismic retrofit of the
Weber Creek bridges will bring the bridges into compliance with current seismic
standards and auxiliary lanes will improve safety and traffic operations on
U.S. 50 and the Missouri Flat and Placerville Drive interchanges. The bicycle/pedestrian
facility, funded in part by the $5 million in federal economic stimulus funds,
will provide a non-motorized connection between Missouri Flat Road and Placerville
Drive.
El Dorado County Parks and Recreation Commissioner Bob Smart said, “The
bike/pedestrian facility will make it possible to bicycle or walk between
the communities of Placerville, Diamond Springs, and El Dorado. Students will
be able to walk or ride their bikes across the bridge to Herbert Green School.
What a wonderful legacy we will be leaving to our children and grandchildren.”
The El Dorado County Department of Transportation is the lead agency for construction
of all phases of the Missouri Flat Interchange Project. The El Dorado County
Board of Supervisors approved the project going out to bid on September 15,
2009. Bid opening is scheduled for October 16 and the construction contact
is scheduled to be awarded on or before October 27. Construction is scheduled
to be complete in the fall of 2011. For more information about the Missouri
