As the next step in identifying relatively lower cost, near-term alternatives addressing existing safety issues on the U.S. 50 corridor in the Camino area, the El Dorado County Transportation Commission (EDCTC) entered into a professional services agreement in April 2008 with CH2M Hill to develop a Project Study Report (PSR) for the Camino Corridor. The PSR is being developed in collaboration with El Dorado County DOT, Caltrans, and the Camino community.

Based on public comment received during the Camino Parallel Capacity/Safety Study project and input provided at the December 10, 2007 Camino Stakeholder Advisory Committee meeting, EDCTC expects the PSR to address the following issues:

The project limits extend from the Smith Flat Road Interchange just east of the Placerville city limits to the Cedar Grove Interchange in El Dorado County. Figure 1 describes the Camino Project Study Report (PSR) area, which includes U.S. 50 within the project limits and all significant local roadways and trails within the project area.

EDCTC received valuable input from the community and the Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) during the development of the Camino Area Parallel Capacity/Safety Study. Public outreach and involvement will also be major components of the Camino Corridor PSR. EDCTC has expanded the membership of the Stakeholder Advisory Committee for the Camino Corridor PSR to include the following groups/entities:

• Apple Hill Growers Association
• Camino Community Action Committee
• Camino Heights Advisory Committee
• Camino Hills Property Owners Association
• Camino Union School District
• El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce
• El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services
• El Dorado County Planning Commission
• El Dorado County Winery Association
• El Dorado Union High School District
• El Dorado Irrigation District
• El Dorado Transit
• Farm Trails
• Ivy Knoll Road Association
• Sierra Club Maidu Group
• Sierra Pacific Industries
• Still Meadows Road Association
• Trails Now

The purpose of the SAC is to provide both policy and technical guidance to the EDCTC during the development of the Camino Corridor PSR. In addition to SAC meetings, the project will include two public open houses, one to introduce the project and one to review the draft PSR. The first open house was held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the “old” gym at Camino Elementary School beginning at 6 p.m. The purpose of the open house was to present the goals and objectives of the PSR and solicit feedback and input from the local community. A summary of the open house can be viewed by clicking here.
