EDCTC to Conduct Walk and Bikeability
Audits
at area Schools
EDCTC was awarded Federal Safe Routes to Schools Funding to conduct Walk and
Bikeability Audits at 53 schools on the western slope of El Dorado County.
Each school will be visited by a qualified professional and assessed for bike
and walkability. A map will be created for the general location of the school
and photos will be taken of the school site and its surroundings. A bike/walkability
checklist will be completed to determine the presence of sidewalks, bike paths,
informal routes, nearby development density/land use, crosswalks, signage,
major intersections, and transit stops. Each school will be assessed for potential
improvements and subsequently ranked for bike and walkability by existing
conditions. Necessary and potential improvements will be detailed for each
school site, as well as preliminary cost estimates for development of needed
improvements. Potential projects and improvements will be prioritized based
on needed safety improvements and potential for increase in numbers of students
biking and walking to school. The completed project will be a useful guide
for future capital improvements and implementation of programs to encourage
walking and biking to school at the appropriate locations.

MAY IS BIKE MONTH
GREAT BIKE RIDE #3
To kick off Bike Month, EDCTC and the 50 Corridor Transportation Management Association co-sponsored a bike ride and lunch beginning at the El Dorado County Government Center at noon on Tuesday May 6. New and veteran bicyclists and elected officials participated in the bike ride on the Sacramento-Placerville Transportation Corridor Rail Trail riding from the Government Center to the Weber Creek Trestle Bridge. This off-road bike ride demonstrated a section of the rail-trail anticipated for construction at the end of the summer.
